The following camp guide contains all the information an enthusiastic chorister should need to know about camp.
If you have any questions about camp, ask the Camp Officer (camp@aucs.org.au). To register for camp, read the following and then head to the Camp Form.
Intensive camp rehearsals let us get past the weekly rehearsal issues of remembering what the piece sounds like from the week before, where the breaths should have been taken, what those strange sf signs (sing funny?) and other letters mean and worrying about whether that attractive chorister from the other section will go to pub/coffee after rehearsal.
Secondly, camp rehearsal attendance is "strongly encouraged" as it makes such a big difference to our concert sound. The more camp you can attend, the more Tuesdays you can miss (e.g sickness, horrible assignments, family commitments) and not get into trouble meeting your Rehearsal requirements. If you have a really really really good reason for not attending camp, talk to Danica (Secretary) as soon as you can - that way we can work out a way for you to meet rehearsal requirements - so Don't Panic (tm).
Finally, camp is a lot of fun. You’ll get to know the wide variety of AUCS members a bit better, do fun stuff beside ‘just singing,’ and you might even have nice stroll after dinner with that particular member of the other section....

When you first arrive at camp, you will need to determine where to sleep. Generally people do this in the dorms, although certain choristers have been known to crash on bean bags in the common area after a heavy night at the pub. When choosing your dorm (assuming you want to go down this path), take into account that the 'loud' dorms are usually closest to the common areas (kitchen, rehearsal area etc.) and the 'quiet' dorms are located furthest away from anything else. If you are likely to be still up to all hours of the morning, choose a 'loud' dorm. If not, choose a 'quiet' dorm. If you have any doubts about the above arrangements, speak to the Camp Officer at camp.
Finally, if you are a loud sleeper (i.e. snoring), try to find a dorm with similar people.. or a dungeon.
If you're staying Friday and/or Saturday night:
If you're coming during the DAY(S) ONLY (not sleeping any nights) for Saturday and/or Sunday:
We try to keep camp costs as low as possible. The fees above include relevant meals (see Camp Form).
DONT PANIC: If you think you'll have trouble paying for camp, please speak to the Treasurer
as we are quite happy to set up an easy payment plan for those who need a little more time.
Note: You must pay (or arrange to pay) before camp.
We prefer payment via direct deposit to the AUCS bank account (details at the footer of every web page). When you transfer your camp fee, please leave a reference in your Internet banking comment field that identifies what it's for and you personally (e.g Camp + Membership Number + First initial and your Last Name -- "CAMP 007 JBOND") Or, you can pay cash directly to the treasurer in rehearsal.
Allow plenty of time. The first rehearsal is on Friday at 7 pm, but try to get there by 6.30 pm to allow for traffic, getting lost and finding a dorm.

Which questions are frequently asked (FAQ)?
Q: What is this 'revue' thing?
A: Individual choristers and groups perform some kind of entertaining (or otherwise) act for the enjoyment of other choristers. We encourage everyone to perform in some way, no matter how good or bad (a certain past president is known to have read out a bus timetable). There is a revue on the Saturday night of each and every AUCS camp, with the winner receiving the honorable, perpetual and moveable revue trophy. Start thinking and preparing now!
Q: Can I bring my partner/friend/cat?
A: Unless your partner/friend/cat is an AUCS member and participates in all rehearsals, no. Exceptions to this rule will be considered for kitchen hands or AICSA members. Basically, the committee considers that the main purpose of rehearsal camps is to rehearse, and that all people at camp should be participating in rehearsals and social events, or contributing to the organisation of the camp. Please talk to the President if you have problems with this policy.
Q: Who do I talk to if I have any questions that I'd like to frequently ask?
A: The Camp Officer - camp@aucs.org.au
